Ian McQuaid is a DJ, journalist, and consultant on contemporary music and culture. His writing can be read in The Guardian, i-D, Time Out, Boiler Room, The Voice, Mixmag, Complex, DJ Magazine and more. He is contributing editor of the London based music and arts site The Ransom Note . He also A&Rs for the Ransom Note record label. In 2016 he was on the judging panels of the Scottish Album of the Year award and the MOBO awards.
As a DJ, McQuaid has played under a number of names; Anarchic Hand, Fear of Music, OffModern, Nasty McQuaid, Oyinboy and Helter-Skelter. He has performed at festivals including Glastonbury, Secret Garden Party, and Serbia’s Exit Festival, clubs including Fabric, XOYO, and Corsica Studios, and cities around the world, from Athens to Tokyo. He has worked with some of the biggest names in music including Diplo, Wu Tang Clan, Arctic Monkeys, and DJed for brands including Smirnoff, Vice Magazine, Redbull, and Metro Newspaper.
